Originally built as part of the Royal Victoria Military Hospital at Netley, this striking chapel is all that remains of what was once the largest military hospital in the world. Opened in 1863 beside Southampton Water, the hospital was commissioned to care for wounded soldiers returning from conflicts across the British Empire, including the Crimean War. Its vast wards stretched for nearly a quarter of a mile, earning both admiration and criticism for their scale and design. When the hospital was demolished in the 1960s, public outcry led to the preservation of the chapel, which still stands today as a powerful memorial to those who served.
