Stretching across mountains, deserts and grasslands, the Great Wall of China is less a single wall and more a vast network of fortifications built and rebuilt across centuries. Although sections date back over 2,000 years, much of the wall seen today was constructed during the Ming Dynasty to defend China’s northern borders from invasion. Its watchtowers and winding pathways follow the landscape like a dragon carved into the spine of the mountains.
