Standing proudly at the centre of Chichester, the medieval Market Cross has watched over the city’s comings and goings for more than five centuries. Built around 1501 by Bishop Edward Story, the structure was designed as both a practical shelter for market traders and a symbol of civic pride. Its intricate Gothic detailing, elegant arches and clock face speak of a time when Chichester was a bustling cathedral city where commerce, religion and daily life all converged in the market square beneath its spire.

Today, the Cross remains one of Chichester’s most recognisable landmarks. Through wars, changing fashions and centuries of passing footsteps, it has endured as a meeting place and quiet observer of the city’s history.

This illustration captures the extraordinary craftsmanship of the building itself, where every carved finial and weathered stone seems to whisper fragments of Tudor England into the modern day.

Illustrations are printed on 200gsm museum-quality fine art paper. Image size will be smaller than the paper size to allow mounting and framing.  Frames are high quality wood and glass. No plastics.
